How much does it cost to launch a meme coin? Real numbers, 2026

8 min read · Updated October 26, 2026

Launching a meme coin on a launchpad costs very little in fixed fees: on sasa, a Solana launch costs about $5 from your USDC balance, plus a first buy of whatever size you pick. A multi-chain launch race costs a first buy from $5 on each of four chains, plus network fees. The bigger costs are the ones nobody lists: the size of your own first buy, the time you spend building a community, and anything you pay for promotion.

This guide breaks the cost into parts so you can budget a launch honestly, compares a launchpad with deploying your own contract, and shows two worked examples with numbers. If you have never launched before, read it next to the meme coin launch checklist.

What are you actually paying for when you launch a meme coin?

Every launch, on any chain, has the same building blocks. Some of them are bundled by a launchpad, some you pay for directly, and one of them is not really a cost at all.

  • Token creation: deploying the token contract or mint on the chain. On a launchpad this is part of the launch fee; on your own it is a network fee plus the work of writing the contract.
  • Liquidity: a coin needs a pool or a curve so people can buy and sell it. A launchpad provides the curve or pool; a self-deployed token needs you to put real money into a pool.
  • Network fees: the gas or transaction fees paid to the chain. These are small on Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Robinhood Chain and Arc, and can be much larger on Ethereum mainnet when it is busy.
  • The first buy: the creator usually buys some of their own coin at launch. This is a position, not a fee.
  • Promotion: posts, artwork, a website, and sometimes paid promotion. This is optional and is where most budgets quietly go.

Launchpad vs deploying your own token: the cost gap

If you deploy a token contract yourself, the network fee to deploy is the cheap part. The expensive parts come after. You need a contract that holders will trust, which means either using a well-known standard template or paying someone to write and review it. You need to create a liquidity pool on a decentralized exchange and fund both sides of it, meaning your token and a real asset like ETH, BNB or USDC. A thin pool makes the price jump wildly on every trade, so a credible self-launched coin usually needs hundreds or thousands of dollars of liquidity from day one. Then you need to lock that liquidity, because buyers increasingly check for it; how to check if liquidity is locked shows what they look at.

A launchpad removes most of that. The token contract is standard and identical for every coin, so buyers already know how it behaves. Liquidity comes from a bonding curve or a launchpad-created pool, so the creator does not have to seed it. Locking is handled by the design rather than by a separate step. What is left for the creator is the launch fee, network fees and the first buy.

How much does it cost to launch a meme coin on sasa?

sasa has two ways to launch, and both are paid from the same USDC balance (called Cash). You can sign up with an email, so you do not need a wallet or any native gas token to start.

Solana launch cost

A Solana launch on sasa costs about $5 from Cash, plus whatever first buy you choose. The coin launches on Solana's standard launch curve, so it shows up right away in Solana explorers, DexScreener, GMGN and wallets. You do not need SOL or a Solana wallet; sasa pays the Solana side from your USDC. The full walkthrough is in how to launch a meme coin on Solana.

Launch race cost (Base, BNB Chain, Robinhood Chain, Arc)

The launch race starts one coin on four EVM chains at the same contract address, each chain's pool opening at about $3,000 market cap. The creator makes a first buy on each chain, from $5 per chain, and pays the network fees for deployment. After five minutes of buying, the chain with the most buying wins and the winning pool is locked forever. The mechanism is explained in how the 5-minute launch race works.

Worked example: two launch budgets

Example only. These numbers are chosen to show the arithmetic; your own choices will differ.

  1. Solana launch with a small first buy: about $5 launch cost plus a $20 first buy. Total out of Cash: about $25. Of that, about $5 is spent and $20 becomes coins you hold.
  2. Launch race with $10 per chain: $10 first buy on each of Base, BNB Chain, Robinhood Chain and Arc is $40, plus the network fees for the four deployments. Of the $40, all of it becomes coins you hold; the network fees are the part that is spent.

In both cases the true sunk cost is small. What matters more is that the first buy can lose value: if nobody else buys, a $20 position in a coin with no demand is worth very little. Size it as money you can afford to lose. How big should your first buy be goes through how buyers read a creator's first buy and why very large ones can scare them away.

Is the first buy a cost or an investment?

Technically neither. The first buy is a trade: you swap USDC for your own coin at the very start of its price curve, which is usually the lowest price it will trade at. If the coin finds buyers, that position rises in value and you can sell part of it. If it does not, the position shrinks. That is why experienced creators think of the launch cost as the fixed fee plus network fees, and treat the first buy as a separate decision about how much risk they want to hold.

Buyers watch the creator's wallet. A small, honest first buy that the creator holds through the first hour tends to look better than a large buy that is sold into the first wave of demand.

The hidden costs: time and promotion

Most coins fail not because they cost too much to launch but because nobody hears about them. The cost that decides a launch is attention. Free channels work if you use them well: posting the launch time in advance, sharing the coin page link the moment it is live, replying to every early holder. Paid promotion exists, but it is the easiest place to lose money without results, so many creators skip it entirely for the first launch and see what organic interest looks like.

Your time is also a cost. A launch that you plan for a day, with a clear name, a recognisable image and a scheduled start, tends to do better than one launched on impulse. None of that needs money; it needs a few hours.

Can a meme coin pay back its launch cost?

Yes, through creator fees, if the coin trades. On sasa, a Solana coin's creator fees are split half to the creator and half to sasa, and that split is fixed in the launch itself, so it cannot change later. The details are in Solana creator fees explained.

For launch race coins, sasa pools charge 2% per trade, and the creator earns 30% of that fee forever, or can choose buyback-and-burn instead at launch.

Example only: if a race coin's winning pool trades $10,000 of volume, the 2% pool fee is $200 and the creator's 30% share is $60. That alone would cover a $40 first buy budget and its network fees, but only if the volume actually happens. Many coins never trade $10,000, so do not plan a launch around fee income.

Which launch is cheaper: Solana or the multi-chain race?

On fixed cost, a Solana launch with a small first buy is the cheapest way to get a coin live on sasa, because one first buy covers the whole launch. The race asks for a first buy on four chains, so the minimum is higher, but it gives you four entry points for buyers and ends in one locked pool. If budget is your main constraint, Solana is the simpler start. If your community is spread across EVM chains, the race may be worth the extra few dollars. Solana vs Base for meme coins compares the two in more depth.

A cheap launch checklist

  1. Decide your total budget before you start, including the first buy, and do not top it up in the heat of the launch.
  2. Prepare the name, ticker and image in advance so you are not paying for rushed design.
  3. Pick the launch type: Solana for one low first buy, or the race for four chains at once.
  4. Choose a first buy you can afford to lose entirely.
  5. Announce the launch time on free channels, then launch from the create page at that time.
  6. Stay online for the first hour to answer questions; that hour costs nothing and decides more than any budget.

Questions

How much does it cost to create a meme coin on Solana?

On sasa, about $5 from your USDC balance plus whatever first buy you choose. You do not need SOL or a Solana wallet. Other platforms and self-deployment have their own fees, and deploying your own token also means funding a liquidity pool yourself.

Can I launch a meme coin for free?

Not usually. Every launch pays at least a network fee, and launchpads charge a small launch fee. The cheapest option is a launchpad launch with a small first buy; on sasa that starts at about $5 for a Solana launch plus your first buy.

How much liquidity do I need to launch a meme coin?

On a launchpad, none from you: the bonding curve or launchpad pool provides it. If you deploy your own token and create a pool, you must fund it yourself, and a credible pool usually needs hundreds or thousands of dollars.

What is the minimum first buy for a multi-chain launch race on sasa?

The creator's first buy starts from $5 per chain, and the race runs on four chains (Base, BNB Chain, Robinhood Chain and Arc), so about $20 in first buys plus network fees.

Is the creator's first buy a fee?

No. It is a purchase of your own coin, so you hold the coins and can sell them later. It can still lose value if the coin does not attract buyers.

Do I need to pay for marketing to launch a meme coin?

No. Many launches use only free channels: announcing the time in advance, sharing the coin page and talking to early holders. Paid promotion is optional and often does not pay for itself.
