Clanker vs Zora: which Base launchpad fits your coin?
9 min read · Updated October 26, 2026
Clanker and Zora both launch coins on Base, but they are built for different people. Clanker is a token deployer: you post a name and ticker to @clanker on Farcaster or use its site, and it creates a token with locked liquidity on Uniswap, with fees you configure. Zora is a social app where your profile becomes a creator coin and each post can become a content coin, with a fixed 1% fee of which half goes to you in ZORA. Choose Clanker for a standalone meme or community token; choose Zora if you are a creator who posts and wants your audience to trade your content.
Both have changed a lot since 2025. Clanker changed owners twice, and Zora shrank its team, changed CEO and expanded to Solana. This comparison uses reporting and documentation from 2025 and 2026.
How we compared them
The usual launchpad questions (curve speed, graduation threshold) do not fit either app, because neither uses a classic graduation step. So we compared what a creator actually controls and earns:
- How a coin is created and who can create one.
- Supply and what the creator gets at launch.
- Fee per trade and how it is split.
- Liquidity: where it sits and whether it can be pulled.
- Audience: who discovers and buys these coins.
- Ownership and 2025-2026 changes that affect trust.

What is Clanker?
Clanker started in November 2024 as an AI agent on Farcaster: tag it in a post with a name, ticker and image and it deploys a token for you on Base. It now also has a web interface, clanker.world, plus an SDK, and third-party tools such as Bankr deploy through it. There is no bonding curve. The token goes straight into a Uniswap pool with liquidity set at creation, and the liquidity is locked, so it cannot be pulled.
Clanker v4 moved pools to Uniswap v4 and made the setup modular. A creator can pick a static fee (for example 1% on buys) or a dynamic fee that rises with price impact and volatility. Rewards can be split across up to seven recipients, and the split cannot be changed after deployment. Up to 90% of supply can be put in a vault with a minimum 7-day lock and linear vesting. There is a creator buy at launch and a short delay on trading in the first blocks to reduce sniping. Each token has a fixed supply of 100 billion.
Ownership matters for trust. Farcaster acquired Clanker on October 23, 2025, and pledged most protocol fees to buying CLANKER. In January 2026, Neynar agreed to acquire Farcaster, and as part of that took over running Clanker. The product kept working through both changes.
What is Zora?
Zora is an app and protocol where coins are tied to people and posts. When you join, your profile gets a creator coin with your username as the ticker and a supply of 1 billion: half trades right away, and the other half vests to you over five years. Each post you make can become a content coin, also with 1 billion supply, of which you receive 10 million. Content coins trade against your creator coin, and creator coins trade against ZORA.
Zora launched its ZORA token on Base on April 23, 2025, and activity jumped when Coinbase's Base App started showing Zora content in July 2025. In February 2026 Zora launched Attention Markets on Solana, where people create markets on trends and take positions on which will rise. In September 2026 co-founder Dee Goens took over as CEO, the team was under 10 people, and The Defiant reported fees from the Base deployment were down 99% from a year earlier.
How do you launch a coin on Clanker vs Zora?
The launch flows show how different the two products are. On Clanker you are deploying a token with settings; on Zora you are posting, and the coin comes with the post.
On Clanker, the usual web route looks like this:
- Connect a Base wallet with a little ETH for gas (Base gas is usually well under $1).
- Enter the name, ticker and image, or post them in a cast that tags @clanker if you use Farcaster.
- Choose the fee type: static or dynamic.
- Optionally set reward recipients (up to seven), a vault with a lock and vesting period, and a creator buy.
- Deploy. The token goes live in a locked Uniswap v4 pool, and trading opens after a short anti-sniping delay.
On Zora, the flow is social:
- Sign up in the Zora app. Your profile gets a creator coin with your username as the ticker.
- Make a post (an image, video or text). It can be minted as a content coin with 1 billion supply, of which 10 million go to you.
- Share it. People who buy your content coin trade against your creator coin, and every trade pays the 1% fee, half of it to you in ZORA.
The practical consequence: on Clanker you make more choices and carry more responsibility (a vault set too large looks bad to buyers), while on Zora most settings are fixed for you. Clanker suits people who want control; Zora suits people who want to post and let the coin follow.
Clanker vs Zora: which has lower fees, and who earns them?
Zora's fee is fixed and documented: 1% on every trade of a creator or content coin. Of that, 50% goes to the creator, 20% to the platform that referred the coin, 20% to liquidity rewards, 4% to the trade referrer, 5% to the protocol and 1% to Doppler. All of it is paid in ZORA, so creator income moves with the ZORA price.
Clanker's fee is chosen by the creator. A common setting is around 1%, but dynamic fees can rise to several percent during volatile trading. The protocol takes 20% of whatever the fee is (0.2% on a 1% fee), and the rest is split among the creator's chosen recipients, paid in the token and the paired asset.
Worked example (illustrative only): a coin does $100,000 in trading volume. On Zora at 1%, fees total $1,000, and the creator receives $500 worth of ZORA. On Clanker with a static 1% fee, fees total $1,000, the protocol takes $200, and $800 goes to the creator's recipients. Clanker's creator share is higher on paper; Zora's goes partly to referrers and liquidity, which can bring more traders. Neither number means much if the coin does not trade. Where does liquidity sit, and can it be pulled?
On Clanker, liquidity is placed in a Uniswap v4 pool at creation and locked. The creator can shape it into up to seven positions, but cannot remove it. On Zora, coins go into Uniswap v4 pools paired with the creator coin or with ZORA. For most small coins the pool is thin, so even modest trades move the price a lot. Our guides on what a liquidity pool is and how to check if liquidity is locked help you check this on any coin.
Is there a graduation step on Clanker or Zora?
No, and this is one of the biggest differences from Solana launchpads like pump.fun. A pump.fun coin starts on a curve and only moves to a full exchange pool once enough people have bought. A Clanker token is in a full Uniswap pool from its first trade, so any Base wallet, aggregator or trading bot that routes through Uniswap can buy it immediately. Zora coins are also in Uniswap v4 pools from the start, though most buying happens through the Zora app and Base App.
The upside is simplicity: there is no milestone to hit and nothing changes for holders later. The downside is that there is no clear 'this coin made it' moment that traders watch for. On Clanker especially, with thousands of tokens deployed, a new coin needs its own reason to be noticed.
Who buys coins on Clanker and Zora?
Clanker coins are found by Farcaster users, Base traders on DexScreener and terminals, and anyone using bots built on top of Clanker. Because anyone can deploy by posting, the volume of new tokens is very high and most get little attention.
Zora coins are found inside the Zora app and Base App, by people following creators. The appeal is social: you buy into a person or a post you like. That suits artists, writers and influencers with an existing audience better than an anonymous meme. It suits pure meme traders less, since most content coins have very little liquidity.
Which is safer, Clanker or Zora?
Both lock liquidity, which removes the classic liquidity pull. The remaining risks are the usual ones. On Clanker, a deployer can vault a large share of supply or make a big creator buy, so check how much the deployer holds and when vaulted tokens start to vest. On Zora, the vesting half of a creator coin reaches the creator's wallet over five years, so more creator-side supply becomes sellable over time. And because Zora pays fees in ZORA, a falling ZORA price cuts creator income. Ownership changes (Clanker) and team cuts (Zora) are worth watching, but neither has stopped trading.
What are other ways to launch on Base?
If neither model fits, there are other Base launchers with bonding curves, and sasa's launch race, which puts one coin on Base, BNB Chain, Robinhood Chain and Arc at the same address. For 5 minutes people buy on any of the four from one USDC balance, the chain with the most buying wins, and the winner's pool is locked forever. sasa pools charge 2% per trade and the creator earns 30% of that fee forever, or can choose buyback-and-burn. It is newer and much smaller than Clanker or Zora. For a full list see meme coin launchpads on Base and the Clanker alternatives and Zora alternatives roundups. Which one should you use?
| You are... | Pick | Because |
|---|---|---|
| A Farcaster user with a meme idea | Clanker | Deploy with one post |
| A builder who wants fee splits or vesting | Clanker | Up to 7 recipients, vaults |
| An artist or creator who posts often | Zora | Posts become coins, 50% of fees to you |
| Paid in USDC or ETH, not a volatile token | Clanker | Zora pays fees in ZORA |
| After a multi-chain launch from USDC | sasa launch race | Four chains at once (newer, smaller) |

Creator coins and memes are highly speculative. Most lose nearly all their value; never put in more than you can afford to lose.
Questions
What fees does Zora charge?
Creator coins and content coins pay a 1% fee on every trade. Half goes to the creator, 20% to the referring platform, 20% to liquidity rewards, 4% to the trade referrer, 5% to the protocol and 1% to Doppler, all paid in ZORA.
What fees does Clanker charge?
The creator picks a static or dynamic fee at launch. Clanker's protocol takes 20% of that fee, and the rest goes to up to seven reward recipients set by the creator, which cannot be changed later.
Do Clanker and Zora use bonding curves?
Not in the pump.fun sense. Clanker puts the token straight into a Uniswap v4 pool with locked liquidity. Zora coins also trade in Uniswap v4 pools, paired with a creator coin or ZORA.
Who owns Clanker now?
Farcaster acquired Clanker in October 2025. In January 2026 Neynar agreed to acquire Farcaster, and Neynar took over operating Clanker.
Is Zora on Solana?
Zora's creator and content coins run on Base. In February 2026 Zora launched a separate product, Attention Markets, on Solana.
Can I launch on Clanker without Farcaster?
Yes. Besides tagging @clanker in a Farcaster post, you can use the clanker.world website, the SDK, or third-party tools such as Bankr.
Which is better for a meme coin, Clanker or Zora?
Usually Clanker, because it creates a standalone token with locked liquidity and configurable fees. Zora fits creators who want their profile and posts to be tradeable.
